John Scherer – 5/18/1951.  Born in Louisville Kentucky to William and Betty Scherer (deceased); one older sister, Karen Ford who lives in Louisville Kentucky with husband, Ronnie. 

John graduated from Fairdale High School in 1969 and continued on to Western Kentucky University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education. 

After college graduation, John taught Special Education at High Street Elementary in Bowling Green Kentucky for 3 years before entering the corporate world in management for a commercial janitorial conglomerate.  This job eventually took him to Roanoke Virginia . . . Debby’s hometown.

John is scheduled to complete his Master degree in Adult Education and Instructional Design in May 2009.

Most recently, John worked in sales and design for a cabinet studio in Southern Pines North Carolina.

Debby Scherer – 6/27/1953.  Born in Roanoke Virginia to Jack and Annie Walters (deceased); one older brother, Carl Walters, residing in Boones Mill Virginia with wife, Cheryl. 

Debby graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970 and entered the work force in retail sales, banking and administration.

Raised in the Church of the Nazarene, Debby developed a passionate heart for missions at an early age through monthly Missionary Meetings at her church and from attending children’s and teen’s camps on the Virginia District.

Most recently, Debby worked as the Financial Manager in a Skilled Nursing Facility in Southern Pines North Carolina.

Debby and John's son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kim Thurman, reside in Bennettsville South Carolina.  Jim is a Recreation Specialist at FCI, Bennettsville SC
and Kim teaches fourth grade in Clio SC.
